ALESSANDRO MARINI

Artist / Community Organiser / Activist

Hello, and thank you for visiting! Since 2013 I have been working with different communities in Glasgow empowering them creatively, practically and politically. These projects have included; helping to run The Unity World Cafe Foodbank; running grassroots political movement workshops during the 2014 Scottish Independence Campaign; the creation and curation of visual art. You can find more about these projects below or see a collection of my favourite images from my portfolio on Instagram.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS

A selection of documented projects I have run in collaboration with the public and other artists or organisations.

SNIK-SNAK BÆNK

July - August 2017

Whilst participating in EASA (European Architecture Student Assembly) 2017, in Denmark, I ran a public engagement workshop where we consulted locals in the streets of Fredrecia. This face to face street consultation developed into a series of workshops over two weeks in which we; designed an interactive bench; created art using found materials; built a steel framed, sheltered bench; and curated the art made plants donated by locals within our small interactive bench. The bench remains in the town of Fredricia to this day as a space for the local community to look after and change as they see fit.

CARNIVAL HEAD DRESS MAKING WORKSHOP

September 2017

A workshop where we had skilled Carnival Artists sharing their knowledge of Head Dress making. It was amazing to see that within an hour we had participants teaching one another how to make, widening the sharing of knowledge. This type of skill sharing workshops is a real passion of mine, it's not about being didactic, it's about facilitating an accessible space where anyone can learn and teach in the same space. These sort of events can create a culture of critical pedagogies and egalitarian dialogues, empowering those who typically feel 'uneducated'.

SOMBREMESA

November 2018

A collaborative group show curated by the participating artists, showcasing works in progress across different mediums. Participating artists had different practices employing different materials and mediums. These differences allow for more enriching conversations and exchanges. This coming together of diverse work and ideas widens our horizons. This collaboration allows us to explore ourselves, our practice, with new perspectives - outside of our ordinary.
